Does skipping meals help lose weight?

One of the dumbest things we get to hear in our daily lives is “ skip meals if you want to lose weight”. This concept of weight loss is a big no! Skipping meals will surely make you shed a few kilos in the beginning, but you have no idea what adverse effects your body will have to face in the future. This will ultimately slow down the metabolism rate, and make you gain more weight than before. The main strategy is to lower the intake of calories to lose weight. Prepare your meals in such a manner that the number of calories consumed is lesser than your usual intake. Never follow the wrong method of weight loss in haste as you might end up with some lifetime damage. Here are some adverse effects of skipping meals for weight loss:

  1. You might experience unhealthy weight loss:

Skipping meals can help you shed a few calories in the beginning as the number of calories decreases drastically. But, skipping meals for a longer time period can push your body into starvation mode, which will cause it to store fat thus leading to belly fat.

  1. Lack of energy:

Food is the ultimate source of energy in our body. When we skip meals, you must have noticed that your body feels dreadful and you are left with no energy to work. Just like it is necessary to put fuel in the tank, similarly, it is necessary to eat food to increase your energy levels. Even exercising becomes difficult in these situations.

  1. Binge eating:

Starving yourself can often lead to binge eating. For example, sometimes when you skip out a meal in the day, fast food suddenly tends to become more appealing to you, and you end up gulping all that down at once. These fast foods contain more fats, calories, and sodium which are not at all good for your body.

  1. Falling prey to deadly diseases:

Skipping breakfast can lead to deadly diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, low immunity rate, etc. For providing your body with an ample amount of fuel, a balanced healthy diet is a must! It will save you from many diseases too. Eating at least three balanced meals every day is a must for your overall development.
